Federer on marriage: "I love being a Swiss" Roger Federer has arrived in Monte-Carlo and in his first press conference on Tuesday he spoke about his recent marriage as well as the upcoming birth of his first child.

Roger Federer held his first press conference from the Monte-Carlo Rolex Masters, where the world No. 2 looks to go one step further than last year after his loss to Rafael Nadal in the 2008 Monte-Carlo title match. On Tuesday, hot topics among the media were Federer's recent marriage to Mirka Vavrinec and the rapidly-approaching French Open.

"Well, we've been talking about it for many years now," Federer said when asked why he and Mirka decided to get married. "But last year was kind of busy. All of a sudden it was the Olympics, you know, so it made it difficult to kind of get it organized. So we figured, Let's wait and do it next year. And we always knew that if we do it, we do it pretty quickly, you know, because I didn't want to have a huge wedding. So thank God the places where we got married were ready, you know, to take us on board, because it was still Easter Saturday, many things were closed.

"But they made exceptions for us, which is very nice. And, you know, basically 95% of the people we invited could come, so they changed their schedules around for us. So everything really worked out really well for us, otherwise we would have waited and done it maybe one month down the road or maybe one year down the road. But everything worked out for this last weekend."

Federer also noted the benefits of being a Swiss when it comes to weddings. "If you want to get married in private, you have to go to Switzerland," the 13-time Grand Slam champion explained when asked if it was difficult to keep the wedding a secret. "They don't actually care over there. They actually want to give you peace and privacy. That's why I love being a Swiss and living in Switzerland."

He added that he and Mirka have not yet decided on a name for their first child, which is due sometime this summer. "You know, we'll see," Federer said. "There's quite a few books around that are that thick, so we'll see where it takes us. But, no, we haven't decided anything yet. Yeah, I have no clue yet right now myself. Thank God we got time left, right, to decide."

Here's what tennis.com said (note they implied, slipped or misspoke about a SON, or is that already known and I missed it?):

Along with chasing a record-tying 14th Grand Slam title at the only major he has never won and reclaiming his No. 1 ranking, Federer is looking for a name for his son.

?We?ll see. There?s quite a few books around that are that thick, so we?ll see where it takes us,? Federer said. ?But, no, we haven?t decided anything yet.?

I think Tennis.com either accidentally slipped or purposely slipped to start a rumor. I haven't heard the gender has been confirmed. Has anyone else?

yeah, a couple of articles I have read have all quoted Fed has expecting a son....

Aha! Wouldn't it be incredible if the baby came on Roger's b'day? wishful thinking...

I'd personally hate to share my birthday with my parents though... My cousin has the same birthday as her mother, and its quite confusing sometimes.

I read the interview transcript and the interviewer specifically asked if they had chosen a name for his SON...and Roger does nothing in his answer to dispute or refute that it's going to be a boy...

I think this is great for Fed. Hopefully all the good things happening outside of tennis will help him relax more, and let the results come to him.

MB20-

I thought exactly the same. Is it too soon to know the baby's sex? I think it is... It takes around 4 months of pregnancy
