Frank Dancevic impressed his countrymen with fantastic play against tough competitor Mario Ancic.
For the one hour and twenty-two minutes of the match, Frank Dancevic and Croat Mario Ancic practically hit the cover off the tennis ball. They both have a huge serve, though on Monday night, Dancevic’s was the more effective. Ancic had just a single break point chance, that coming in the second set, after Ancic was already down a break himself.
The first set went routinely enough for Dancevic. He played the nearly extinct serve and volley game nearly to perfection. Ancic made every attempt to keep up, but he was simply outplayed. Good serving got the Croat out a few tight jams, but he also threw in three double faults for the set, many coming on game points. Dancevic won the set with a single break, and had the only break opportunity in the set.
Ancic struggled again in the second set. Dancevic continued to volley well, and Ancic’s net play was not as tidy as it should have been. The Canadian had an incredible eight chances on Ancic’s serve. Ancic got a break right away in the second to go up 2-0. But Dancevic broke back immediately thanks in part to another double fault from the Croat. Dancevic got another break in the set to make it a tidy straight set victory. Dancevic’s win was celebrated by fireworks set off at the Canadian tournament.
