5/30/09 9:04 PM | Cheryl Murray
Roger Federer dropped another set on his way to a four-set victory over France’s Paul-Henri Mathieu.
Federer played much better than he did in his second round match against Jose Acasuso. Still, the Swiss man dropped the first set to an inspired Paul-Henri Mathieu before closing the victory in four.
Mathieu came out of the gate on fire. The Frenchman is a notoriously streaky player who has a habit of losing matches in which he has taken an early lead – Saturday’s match was no different. Federer did not play particularly poorly in the first set, but Mathieu’s return was doing damage to the Swiss man. With his usual aces coming back at him, Federer dropped serve to give Mathieu the early lead.
Federer came back with a vengeance in the second set. He found his range on the forehand side, so that he pummeled Mathieu with winners and donated very few unforced errors (3) to level the match at 2 sets each.
The third set found better tennis from Mathieu, as the level of the match raised considerably. Federer threw in another 3 unforced errors, but the Frenchman fought harder and served better on break points. He managed to stave off 5 of 6 break points, but Federer pocketed the all-important break of serve at the 4-4 game.
The fourth set looked like a lock for Federer. He broke in Mathieu’s opening service game on a long error. Mathieu did not give up hope, though. On Federer’s serve at 1-2, Mathieu absolutely crushed the ball to set up 0-40 and earn 3 points to win the break back. The Swiss man saved the first two, but sent a ball long on the third to level the set at 2-2.
Federer was not done putting the pressure on Mathieu. On the Frenchman’s service game at 3-3, Federer offered up a beautiful backhand pass to secure another break of serve. Mathieu held for 4-5, but Federer made no mistake serving out the match. He will take on Germany’s Tommy Haas in the round of 16.
Federer says conditions on court were tough with wind and sun.

It's always a GREAT pleasure to see (whatever your favourite tennis player is) WIN a match. The FED WON today. It is a GREAT day for FED and for us FEDfans! He is such a GREAT competitor. He moves in waves... Sometimes he releases a Tidal WAVE and WINS! Cheers FEdfans! Cheers! :)
sky , 5/30/09 11:37 PM
somehow watching this match i had a pretty strong feeling roger was going to get thru this round... even when he did lose in the 1st set... even when mathieu put in a very tough fight... all was calm.
& yes i agree... very entertaining.
kazuo , 5/30/09 11:39 PM
Thanks for sharing that this was an entertining match. I'll look for it on Youtube now. Roland Garros is entirle under-rated in the US. If it was on NBC earlier today, I couldn't get there in time-- just saw the last couple of games of Serena's match, and all they talked about was Serena and Roddick. Maybe they're a day behind. Now that I've seen these comments, would like to see it and wil look on You Tube -- GO FEDERER!
ilovetennisvt , 5/31/09 12:59 AM
looks like a Tsonga versus Federer semis, maybe Tsonga should have a go at Nadal and see if he can bring him down again.
nirv02 , 5/31/09 1:05 AM
Lol... Its fun to see how underrated Delpo is for most tennis fans. He will beat Tsonga, no doubt about it.
Emiliano55 , 5/31/09 1:53 AM
ilovetennisvt....
was a great match today.....no offence cheryl...(will ask you a question in a minute)...but federer was pumped.....wilander was saying that the first set loss was a set which is to be expected sometimes from fed as he is trying different shots, playing a different game, mixing up tactics.....honestly...he played A-M-A-Z-I-N-G tennis today. He was much more aggressive than i have seen him and once again he WAS tested today...but he came through showing his resolve and mettle against a very fine player.....
boy...it was windy too....the first thing mathieu said in his interview at the end of the match...commentator was right there on court...microphone practically up his nose!!!! mathieu said how windy and what difficult conditions he played in....he looked really upset.....
have to say tho' fed was mixing it up somethin' special....A-M-A-Z-I-N-G.....the stats show that he had 59 winners to 29 UE which is pretty hot.....just his first serves at 59% which were not as good as could be...but then again mathieu was only 1% higher.
some fantastic variety on his serves tho' cheryl....don't you think....some real kick and rip serves which flew out of his raquet....simply beautiful.....
cheryl....with respect.....the only times the sets were equal were 1 set all....not 2 sets all as reported in your article...(4th paragraph)...but cheryl....gotta say mathieu...what an E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T player.....i never seen him play so aggressive before....every point he was putting 100,000,000% behind the shot....he was I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E....i cannot believe he only no. 35 in the world....is he a natural clay courter? why hasn't he done better on the tour?
Also....it just makes me realise how amazin' these top players are....all of them (poss with the exception of rafa...and that was in the first set of the first round)...have been tested.....the BIG FOUR.....fine players....but i cannot believe how much i have learnt about the other players and just how great they are to see...and it makes me wonder why they haven't done better in matches on tour before......perhaps it is the grand slams that brings out the B-E-A-S-T in everyone????....plus on the flip side....just how GOOD/GREAT/BRILLIANT/EXCELLENT you have to be to reach No.1,2,3 and 4....Just heart stopping stuff today....Kohlschreiber played out of his skin....mathieu played out of his skin....was a great day to watch tennis.......
Bravo Federeeerrrreeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr...a joy to watch you move around the court like a cheetah...(as described today)...he is soooo fast......incredible speed....W-O-W...
J-U-S-T....W-O-W!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Alllleeeeeeeeeezz zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Fedeereereeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
malteser1 , 5/31/09 1:53 AM
zoey...in case you post on this later honey....just to say hi....and hope to catch you tomorrow...just watched the novak match and fed match......nole not playing his 'A' game today...but his interview was interesting where he described his play as 'a bad day at the office'...go watch it...on main RG site....he'll come back once he rested and reflected...he too good a player....
having said that....WOW...our roger today did us proud honey...he really did....
i'll catch you and sky tomorrow....fly the flag for federer honey..............!!!!!!!!!!
Alllleeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Fedeereerreeeeeerrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!
malteser1 , 5/31/09 2:10 AM
i am sorry "ilovetennistv" but i have to disagree with you on the statement you made about RolandGarros in the US is underrated!
i have been a fan of tennis for many years and i must say that i am very proud of the coverage and the exposure that RG is getting here in the US.
tennis is being broadcast at5am until...all day mostly and on the tennis channel with live streams.then at6pm espn is taking over
i have got tennis everywhere! i have seen most of the matches 4or5 times(the ones that i care to watch)
i don't know where you live or anything but they are even talking about it on espn sports center and i am just very proud.
alik , 5/31/09 2:16 AM
No kidding about the underrating and abscence of FO coverage in the US well, my zone, the notenniszone MST. I imagine, ilovetennisvt that it's better if on east coast or have tennis channel.
Have not had time to watch match again Malteser but I checked the stats and very happy, very happy with Fed's serve. My energy zapped girlfriend, right on about needing the energy injection, got that and the usual you tube fix of federer and some zzzzzz's, and be right as rain. Love giggling chuckling reading your energetic, fun
posts. Keep on goin' on Malteser!
zoey234 , 5/31/09 2:27 AM
Well alik , I think it must be true then and it settles the problem, Have to spend the extra $ because expanded cable coverage in Sun Valley, Idaho sucks and I won't chance it for Wimbledon, even tho I travel and have been too cheap to upgrade but gotta get the tennis fix!
zoey234 , 5/31/09 2:33 AM
zoey!!!!!!!!!! chick!!!!!!!!!! girlfriend!!!!!!!!! am still here....just cannot sleep!!!!!! soooo excited right now!!!!!!!!!!!! so they now posted fed's interview on roland garros main website...check him out!!!!!!!!!!!!
strange interview questions tho'...they were asking him about what he would do if ball hit him directly and the other player won the point....???apparently there some controversy with the women's game right now? do you know anything about that and who it was? the interviewer didn't give the name but would imagine someone would know....thing is...not really interested in the women's game.....the mens' game just so fab..fab...fab...right now...
anyways....sort of a day's rest tomorrow....really have to finish an assignment for uni.....and a million other things to do...tennis is taking over my life right now!!! but it's a G-R-E-A-T feeling...................zoey and sky...goodnite for now and catcha tomorrow......xxxx
Alllllleeeeeeeezzzzzzzzzzzz Feddeeerrrreeerrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!
malteser1 , 5/31/09 2:36 AM
I read Fed's interview Malteser, the usual read it and read it again...I always want to hear what Da Boss has to say and yes it was about Serena Williams hitting Sam Sosur of Australia.....going back to read Serena. Serena and Venus have dominated the womens game, well in the slams and no offense to the Williams sisters, they are superstars but after a while well.....I just say, I think Venus is definitely not quite what she used to be and I got into women's tennis during the AO.
Give that brain of yours a rest and seeya!
zoey234 , 5/31/09 2:55 AM
"but cheryl....gotta say mathieu...what an E-X-C-E-L-L-E-N-T player.....i never seen him play so aggressive before....every point he was putting 100,000,000% behind the shot....he was I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E"
You obviously didn't see his match against Nadal in 2006 here. He was the only player that was actually real close to beat him at RG.
Is it me or most of these 'fedfans/fed fanboys' are kinda new to the tennis world ??
Emiliano55 , 5/31/09 3:31 AM
No zoey, that wasn't what it was about, tho you got it half right. It was an incident on court between Serena and her opponent Maria Jose Sanchez (I think there is one more name but I forget). In a rally, Serena hit a short shot and Maria was coming to the net and the ball hit her arm and then her racket and bounced back into Serena's court. They showed it clearly on many replays....it hit maria, then hit her racket and bounced over the net. Serena had quit playing and had her arms up apologizing for hitting her when she was told she lost the point. Even the commentators agreed that the chair umpire should've asked Maria if it hit her. He never did. It was hit hard enough to bounce off 2 different objects and still go back over the net so Maria had to have known it hit her arm. But she never piped up and took the cheap point. She quickly ran over to her chair while Serena argued and sat there guzzling water and not saying a dang word! I'm not a fan of Serena's but that was unfair what happened!
fan4tennis , 5/31/09 3:43 AM
Thanks FFT. The brain is fried trying to keep on foot in the real world 9 time zones from FO.
Hey, if you are still logged on FFT. With the Nole loss today I have a reputation to keep. Who do you pick between Tsonga and Delpo?
zoey234 , 5/31/09 3:50 AM
Nevermind the "pick" question FFT. Ricky says he's "leaning" toward Tsonga in 5. Gonna be some great tennis tomorrow!
zoey234 , 5/31/09 4:20 AM
Is it me or most of these 'fedfans/fed fanboys' are kinda new to the tennis world ??
Emiliano55 , 5/31/09 3:31 AM
Emiliano, I tend to agree with you. I find a lot of them are quite new to the sport in my experience. Don't know about others. Malteser - no offense - hadn't heard of Acasuso before and didn't understand the difference between seeding and ranking. On this site, mane Fed fans before said they only stared watching tennis few years ago or ater Fed dominated. As I said yesterday when someone (eqm? commented Fed fans are mature) that I have found a lot of Rafa fans age range between very young teenagers to grandparents and a lot of men & women in their 40s and 50s who've watched tennis forever. Quite a few people I know who are diegard Fed fans don't actually watch tennis even - some from the US and couple from Australia but they call themselves his diehard fans - I have to tell them results of matches!! I wonder if many just BECAME his ans after hearing about him when he started to dominate since he's such high profile and of course a great plaler. I don't think that they really appreciate how good his game is if they don't actually watch it!!
I find it very interesting. And please Fed fans, not starting a fight, I'm just curious about age ranges of those who are such die hard Fed fans.
jean , 5/31/09 4:35 AM
zoey, I am leaning towards Tsonga also. He's been on fire lately and he'll have the "home crowd advantage."
jean: I'm in my 40's and have watched tennis for ages. The Rafa fan site I visit has many members and it ranges from 13 years old to some in their 60's and above.
fan4tennis , 5/31/09 4:48 AM
I had a client asking me about tennis last week and went on about how/why I thought Novak Djokovic had a shot at the FO final and I see the guy Monday. So, maybe I save face a little when Tsonga wins and a couple other predictions. Dicey business, predicting.
zoey234 , 5/31/09 5:08 AM
Dicey business, predicting.
zoey234 , 5/31/09 5:08 AM
Yes but it's fun, no? We base it on so many things, past performance on the surface, recent results, current form, draw, favourites, etc and put ourselves through roller coaster emotions week in, week out and never learn!!! LOL :P
remi , 5/31/09 5:15 AM
Hiya Remi.....5:15 am your time is it? It's time for me to hit the hay, as they say. to answer your question from the other night or day and no clue what to call the thread but I think you know. I meant to say ssshhhh "Raindrops" not you. But I was in a hurry and breezed through that post. When I went back later, clearly, you had not taken a shot! Have a great day watching tennis....going to bed....I'm sure Rafa will take care of soderling...Bank on that one. Federer was amazing today in a very nerve wracking way.
zoey234 , 5/31/09 5:32 AM
Just turning off laptop Remi and thinking about predictions. Yes right all the above variables you mention come into mind yet there is always some other something, something impossible to know. Maybe it is enough for Nole right now to be near the top and who could know? It's Dicey, and at the top level with Rafa there waiting....but I hoped more for Nole.
zoey234 , 5/31/09 6:04 AM
I have no access to television this week and am gutted that I cant watch the FO. I was able to watch the Madrid Masters as Bet365 were streaming it live-sadly bet365 are not covering the FO. Are there any sites out there that offer live streaming coverage of FO games? I'd really appreciate any advice as its sickening being out of the loop!

fedexfan , 5/31/09 8:22 AM
Hey ........I think u all have read .........still posting !!! *wink*
Q. Seemed pretty tough conditions out there this afternoon andevening. Did it take you a little timeto get adjusted to the wind?
ROGER FEDERER: Well, I mean, you can never, I think, quiteget used to swirly winds. It was toughconditions. It was tough to see the ball, too, with the sun going down.
The stands were verybright, so it made it very difficult to see the ball and keep the ball inplay. I think that's why rallies wereshort and conditions were pretty quick in the beginning, because, you know, itwas a nice day all day. When the sunshines onto the court for 10 hours, that's what you get at the end of the day.
So it was kind of difficult, but I thinkonce sort of the shadow came in, you know, I think the level of play alsopicked up. So the end was a good one,and I was happy the way I played towards the end.
Q. Therewas just a pretty significant controversy in the women's draw. You're known for your sportsmanship. When a ball hits a player, is it the player'sresponsibility to report it, do you think, to the chair umpire that it's hithim or her, and the point is over?
ROGER FEDERER: Oh, you mean ?? okay, so the player gothit won the point?
Q. Correct.
ROGER FEDERER: It's a tough call. I mean, it's one of those borderline calls, you know, where ?? it's like if you get a double bounce when you run for adropshot. Yourself, you can't hardlyfeel it.
I mean, I guess whenyou touch it with part of your shirt, Imean ?? I'm saying now that I would absolutely report it, you know. But then if Wimbledonis on the line, would you?
I would think I would, just because out offair play. So would I report it. But because it happens so little, that maybein the moment itself you don't know what to do, and then you realize it's suchan important point. You know, actually Iwant that point.
The umpire probably didn't see it,and next thing you're maybe doing something you shouldn't have done and youregret it later on. This is where it'smaybe a tough call sometimes.
Q. Nowyou sitting on the player council, and you're listening how Nadal is talkingabout the antidoping rules. You're aformer No. 1. You shared that table withhim on the player's council with him. How much a player of your influence can sway things the way playerswant?
ROGER FEDERER: We don't have much power when it comes toabout the doping issues, you know, just because rules are in place. They've ?? how does it work? The international, you can avoid that, wellthen the Spanish would request it from him. So we have to do it anyway, you know.
Either from thenational or the international level, we'd be asked from someone to report forone hour a day. That's why it's a losingbattle. I haven't heard his commentsthat much lately. I heard it in thebeginning when he first came out. Ithink it was in Australiaor something. I mean, I heard that.
Sure, I understand him, you know, but whatare you going to do? It's not fun foranyone, you know. I think he knowsthat. We just try to get through it aswell as we can.
Q. Ingeneral, you get the feeling that as a former No. 1, or while you were No. 1,your goal was getting here, and you guys have no strength to shape this sportthe way you want, to solve the issues?
ROGER FEDERER: I think so, especially now that we're in thecouncil. Even though being in thecouncil that's not a very strong position. I think it is when you're ranked at the top and you want the best forthe game.
So I think having a lotof players now in the council is a good thing. That means we have to speak, even though, let's say we don't like eachother, which is not the case. But itmakes us sit down at the table and discuss issues that maybe we would never do,and I think that's a good thing.
He's being very good in the meetings. He's always listened a lot. We have ?? when we agree, you know, things move very quickly. So far, we'veonly agreed on everything, which is a nice thing. I like doing business with Rafa, let's say. (laughter.)
Sounds so serious, but it's ??the meetings are fun, too.
Q. Sodo you think the ATP has advanced significantly with the new head and the newchanges with the council?
ROGER FEDERER: Well, it's a process that takes its time, youknow, for Adam Helfant to get into the job, listening around, meeting thepeople. I think those times are kind ofover now. I think now he can starttaking decisions.
There was a transitionperiod, as well, which made it hard, you know, to change a few things. But honestly, we have better prize money, youknow. Etienne didn't do all bad, youknow, but definitely there were some tough decisions like with the Hamburg case and soforth.
So there was a few tough situations, alsowith communications. I think that'sunder control now. That's why it's justmore smooth now. I'm looking forward fora great future for the ATP.
Q. Ingolf there has been a lot of talk about the impact of the downturn in theeconomy. Has there been any talk ordiscussion about that in the ATP?
ROGER FEDERER: Sure, we talked about it, you know. We want to not destroy any tournaments, youknow. Tournaments and players have towork together, even though we want things, tournaments want things. I think that's at the end of the job, it's Adam's,sort of nice job to judge, you know, both parties and see what's best for thesport.
I think because we'rein the council, I think it's interesting for the tournaments that they see wedo care from our side, because we know they care. They try to put on a great event for us. We are thankful by showing up and trying toput on a good show.
So for this reason, I think it's workingactually really well at the moment, even though times are tough.
THE MODERATOR: Questions in French.
Q. It is always said that you shouldn't be happy of the loss of anopponent, but how do you react to Djokovic's loss? He was the toughest player in your part ofthe draw. How do you react to his loss?
ROGER FEDERER: If I can't reach the semifinal it won'tchange anything for me, so I should not lose focus. I've seen nothing from that match, so I can'ttalk about that match. I was playing atthe same time, more or less.
I was getting preparedwhen he started. But indeed it is asurprise, that's for sure. But I'm verypleased with my match today, and that's the most important thing.
Q. But aren't you relieved?
ROGER FEDERER: No, not at all. Winning the semifinal is not winning thetournament, so it doesn't change anything.
Q. A question about the conditions. You were talking about the light. From the press stands, we had the impression that the wind blew away allthe clay. Did this give you problems?
ROGER FEDERER: Well, there are always bad bounces on clay, whether it's windy or not. The mostdifficult thing, as you said, was that there was not much clay left.
So it was ?? sometimesit was slippery and sometimes it was less slippery, so you needed to be morecautious when you tried to slide.
You need to be careful, and that made thingsmore difficult. You need to know exactlyhow far from the ball you were, because sometimes when you were trying to findyour rhythm and trying to put the ball in you still missed, and then you feltterrible.
It was difficult to see the ball, because everything was very bright behind the ball. So it was not easy, indeed. That's the reason why maybe the level of gamewas not so great in the beginning.
But then at the end we startedplaying better, and I think the match was great.
Q. Whatpleased you in this match and what disappointed you about your game? And also another question about the wholetournament. What is your impression?
ROGER FEDERER: I'm disappointed with nothing. I'm happy I won. I missed some opportunities in the first setand he played well. But as I said, wedidn't have much rhythm. I was trying toput the ball in, but in that case it's difficult to win all the points. That's why he stayed into the match.
After that, he startedplaying really well. He played verystrong, hard shots on the baseline. Itwas difficult for me. He had more rhythmin the beginning. It was more difficultfor me. I was not feeling my serve verywell. But as the match progressed, Ifelt better with my serve.
It's always dangerous to lose the first set.
Q. Andfor the whole tournament?
ROGER FEDERER: It's correct. I'm happy I'm still here. Othershave lost already. I'm still there. Of course, I hope I'll play better and bettermatch after match. But if the conditionschange, the opponents change, I'm hoping for the best in my next match. I hope I'll be able to show what I can do.
Q. About the difficulties you talked about, we had the impression you werein control. Was it true?
ROGER FEDERER: More or less. After losing the first set. I wasnot controlling the match then; he was. But after being up 2?Love, things came my way again. I served better, and this is why I was ableto mix it up more.
It's been a while. I haven't played against Paul?Henri, so itwas difficult for me to see where he was going to serve or hit his forehand orbackhand. Next time I'll play him Ibelieve I will be able to see where ?? it will be easier to play againsthim. It's easier when you know theplayer better.
Q. It's the weekend. It's thebeginning of the evening. People have alot of fun. They enjoy it. Is it different from when you play during theweek? What do you think about theatmosphere?
ROGER FEDERER: The stadium was full from the beginning tothe end, which is not always the case, and that was really nice. To be able to have that in the first week isgreat, and the crowd was very fair play. I had a lot of pleasure. I reallyenjoyed that match. I saw the Hola, thewave. It was really nice, the Mexicanwave. I think it was a good match.
Both of us enjoyed it,even if I won, so I had maybe a bit more fun. It's a lot of fun playing those kind of matches.
tomnjerry2 , 5/31/09 8:23 AM
Federer's serve works well on the clutch. And regardless of how poorly he's playing that serve is always dangerous. Which is why only Djokovic (unless we see an inspired Monfils) could beat him here.
I don't think Roddick/ Del Potro (who will beat Tsonga) can trouble Fed.
samprallica , 5/31/09 8:32 AM
I feel sooooooooorrrrrrrryyyyyyyyy for ........Djoker who choked again .............. only been able to reach semis 2 times of his last 5 GS appearances where as our Fed has done all !!!!!! M i right ???

jean.....you asked a question way back on this post.....about the ages of people...and i think fft is the only one that answered you so far? I'm 28 and currently studying at uni/working also in uk...but travel to cyprus where family are.....(am greek).....
i don't profess to be an expert in tennis.....but you asked the question about 'diehard' fed fans ages, etc......i have been watching tennis since i was about 15 years old.....and i consider myself a 'student' of the game.....i have watched reruns of classic tennis matches....borg/mcenroe/connors/gueralitas/lendl...and have read mcenroe's autobiography.....'Serious'....a fantastic read....i watch as much tennis as i can when i can and am lucky right now as can watch a lot more cos' of half term hols..
i don't think it helps when you say things about the fact that i hadn't heard of some tennis players? if they don't play regularly on the tour or in the main tournys as some of the others do....then their names are not gonna be as familiar to me....
i have learnt so much more from all the posters on this thread...and continue to do so.....i don't think there is any shame in not knowing ALL tennis players..what they do...what they eat...etc.....whether or not YOU consider me to be a diehard fan...makes no difference to me.....
so...can i return the same questions to you.....how old are you? do you know every single player on the tour? watch every single tourny around the world 24/7 and know everything about tennis there is to know? (no offence intended)...

jean... I don't know I got your point right or not...but I guess you are implying that fed's fan base is among the young age who are not real tennis fans?? have I got it right?(sorry if it's wrong)... well I don't think so,actually I think he is popular among the middle aged group, and I heard this from some Rafa fans that Rafa belongs to the young generation(I'm not saying immature,I'm saying young) ...all in all I guess all players may absorb ppl of different ages and different knowledge of tennis...and I really don't think not remembering a match in 2006 means u don't have a good knowledge of tennis!:D and like what f4t said,I visit RF.com and ppl of all ages visit his site and post on the forum!! :)

Djokovic did not choke. Not having played tennis; you wouldn't know what sleepwalking is.
The reason I suggested Monfils can beat Fed is because he has a good defence base, and can turn on attack when he wants to. He is also a very good athlete. This + the fact that he thrives on French support could bolster his chances against Federer.
Tsonga is not good enough defensively against Fed and neither is Del Po. If Fed will lose before the final, (Highly unlikely now with Novak out) he will go out to Monfils. Thats what I think.

I agree with you sampralicca that Monflis can beat Fed as was evident in the SF kast year when Fed needed to hustle for the win against Monflis. But I think Fed should have a very good chance of lifting the FO now. Very good chance. FO is always a mystery for me. Players like Gaudio who would probably get massacred 6-0.6-0.6-0 by Nadal now won it and there was so many who won this weird tournament but never won in other surfaces.

Really entertaining match. Federer showed high-class tennis in some passages of the game. Its always a good feeling to see him playing like that.
